CUSD sees enrollment rise

Despite a turbulent period since the Camp Fire, further complicated by the COVID-19 pandemic, Chico Unified School District (CUSD) administrators say so far this fall, enrollment is rising and teacher staffing levels are recovering. That has given some running for the school board hope to be able to tackle multiple high-pressure concerns. Read sidebar here.

Clinics to offer vaccine for young children

Public Health Clinics in Oroville and Chico will offer the COVID-19 vaccine for ages 6 months and older starting the week of July 11, Butte County Public Health says on its Facebook page here. Vaccinations will be available two days a week by appointment. Visit myturn.ca.gov to view details and book your appointment.

A Planned Parenthood pioneer

Lena Levine earned her MD in Obstetrics and Gynecology, one of 25 women in her medical school class of 400. She worked at the Margaret Sanger Bureau in New York through its long history to becoming the Research Center for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, developing and dispensing contraceptives, overseeing clinics, working with international doctors from countries without contraceptive facilities.
