FPPC opens a new investigation

The Fair Political Practices Commission opened an investigation on Oct. 30 into councilmembers Addison Winslow and Bryce Goldstein.

This means four councilmembers have been investigated for conflict of interest over the Downtown Revitalization Project. Mayor Kasey Reynolds was cleared of an alleged conflict. An investigation spurred by a complaint against Councilmember Tom van Overbeek is ongoing.

Rob Berry, a vocal critic of the progressives, said he filed the complaints against Winslow and Goldstein after complaints were lodged with the FPPC against Reynolds. Berry alleged that Winslow’s and Goldstein’s office space downtown may disqualify their votes on the revitalization project. Both councilmembers voted in favor of the redesign project.

Berry also argues that Goldstein’s position with CalTrans was a conflict because the revitalization project relied on funding from a CalTrans grant, called the Active Transportation Grant.

Goldstein said she was “surprised they’re even taking the time to investigate instead of throwing it out.” Winslow has previously told ChicoSol the complaint is frivolous.
