padding-bottom: 0.5384615385em;">Grass-roots community celebrations of the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., across the nation on Sunday and Monday, often recalled his anti-imperialist teachings, his warnings about the dangers of capitalism, and the need to act in the interests of justice. In Oakland (above) participants in a downtown march also protested city policies that have pushed out residents of historically black neighborhoods. In Chico, a university sociologist spoke to a large crowd at Trinity United Methodist Church.
