The Chico City Council approved the appointment of Gillian Haen as the new city manager at its July 7 meeting.
Mayor Kasey Reynolds and councilmembers Tom van Overbeek, Addison Winslow, Bryce Goldstein and Katie Hawley voted in favor of the appointment, while councilmembers Dale Bennett and Michael O’Brien were opposed.
During public comment, several Chico residents voiced concerns about Haen’s appointment, citing lawsuits related to her tenure as assistant city manager in Vallejo and arguing that the proposed compensation package is too high.
Haen is serving as assistant city manager in Vallejo and will start her new position in Chico on July 27.
