The rapid response network run by NorCal Resist says an ICE vehicle hit a pedestrian this morning in Woodland and has posted a video showing the person being knocked over by a black SUV. The pedestrian suffered only minor injuries, NorCal Resist said.
The video shows the vehicle not stopping after hitting the person.
In addition, NorCal Resist Migra Watch observers said they saw federal immigration enforcement officers early Oct. 19 at the Sutter County Veterans Hall in Yuba City, a location that the clerk-recorder’s office lists as an Election Day polling place.
ChicoSol has emailed ICE asking for comment and not yet received a response.
ICE sightings in Woodland
A NorCal Resist volunteer told ChicoSol that the Woodland (Yolo County) incident was witnessed and filmed by someone in a neighborhood who emerged from their home because of street commotion. Neighbors were blowing whistles to alert the community to the presence of ICE.
The volunteer said that ICE sightings had been confirmed on “various streets” this morning in Woodland, and “people kept calling us and there were people following [ICE].”
“We think they’ve left [Woodland] because they haven’t seen in over an hour,” said the volunteer, who asked not to be identified.
ICE in Yuba City
It’s unclear what immigration agents were doing at the Yuba City Veterans Hall or whether there were detentions, and the immigrant advocacy group NorCal Resist said they haven’t been seen there since then.
A Migra Watch observer identified three vehicles that NorCal Resist says were used previously during “verified immigration enforcement actions” in the North State. The observer reported seeing armed uniformed agents wearing masks and bulletproof vests labeled “ERO” and badges labeled “ICE.”
In Chico
No ICE sightings have been verified in Chico since Oct. 9, NorCal Resist said. ChicoSol reported the arrest of a local construction worker that came that day, after what was likely the beginning of “Operation Safe California.” Gov. Gavin Newsom issued an Oct. 9 alert about what might be a 45-day operation by ICE to ramp up immigration enforcement — just ahead of the midterm elections.
Community members in Chico said immigration agents were using dark Nissan Pathfinders the day of the Butte County detention.
