ChicoSol recognized for ‘solutions journalism’

Yucheng Tang’s 2025 report on Butte County’s mental health diversion program “is a great example of solutions journalism,” according to the Society for Features Journalism (SFJ) which awarded the ChicoSol reporter third place in its national feature series competition. A SFJ judge said Tang’s two-part series explaining how the program provides some defendants a second chance at a future free from convictions or criminal records “features terrific reporting that covers multiple angles.”
