At its July 14 meeting, the City Council will consider a four-year agreement with the Chico Police Officers Association covering July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2030. The contract would include negotiated changes to officer pay, benefits, and other employment terms, including annual pay range increases of 3% in 2026, 3.5% in 2027, and 4% in both 2028 and 2029.
The Council will also introduce an ordinance to establish Entertainment Zones in downtown Chico and Meriam Park under California SB 969. If approved, adults 21 and older would be allowed to purchase alcoholic beverages from participating licensed businesses and consume them within designated public areas.
At the request of Councilmember Addison Winslow, the City Council will also discuss water quality in Big Chico Creek.
The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. at 421 Main St., Chico.

Does Chief Aldridge plan to retire with a golden handshake for himself and other “good ole boys” of Chico PD? The CPD didn’t share their salary increase on their FB page…wonder why? If the taxpayers allow their council member majority to approve the four-year contract, what will the taxpayers get in return?
Have Aldridge and other CPD “higher-ups” promised to weed out rogue cops like sexual predator, ( 10 year employee), CPD Sgt. Michael Williams, officers like Michael Vincent getting fellatios on duty, reassure the public that officers are mentally healthy, hire more female officers, stop behavior that requires taxpayers to pay costly settlements for bad behavior such as the recent $350,000 paid to a young woman who was roughed up by troubled former CPD “peace officer” Lt. Mark Bass?
To many Chicoans, CPD is scandal-ridden, insular, and resistant to change police department. Now, they want more salary and benefits. The council majority seems to quickly approve all their requests without strings. The new City Manager should have her say before the council votes on the contract.
